Squatting has become common place with the growing number of people stepping foot into the weights room over the last few years, looking to maximise the benefits of weight training. However doing a squat and understanding how to maximise a squat are two very different things. There are lots of exercises that get butchered in the gym and the squat is certainly one of them.

It’s important to understand that there are lots of different ways to squat, finding the best fit for your body or your best start point is key. It’s also important to know how to get set up and what to be focussing on throughout. The squat is a fairly complex movement, with lots of joints in motion all at once, there’s a lot to think about. This is why I’ve written this masterclass as a joint by joint approach from the feet up. You can take the time to focus on specific regions of the body, as you progress through the different variations of the exercise.
