5 Reasons Women Should Strength Train

Here’s the thing, I live in a social media bubble where I surround myself with women lifting weights, getting strong and generally being freaking badass human beings. Yet when I walk into most gyms, this isn’t exactly what I’m seeing. Don’t get me wrong, we’ve moved on a lot in the last 5-10 years. But there’s still a lot of work to be done.

So share this blog post with all your friends to encourage more and more women to embark on the journey.

  1. The feeling of empowerment – for too long, the narrative has been that women need to be small. Focusing on performance by getting stronger builds a sense of pride and confidence in what you’ve achieved
  2. Real-life carryover: Strength training makes every single day-to-day activity easier. Not to mention, women are statistically more likely to raise children or take care of loved ones, which requires a resilient body.
  3. Injury prevention – strength training, increasing muscle tissue, improved bone density and increasing tendon thickness, all of which will help protect you in later life against things such as sarcopenia (age-related loss of muscle) as well as help manage current niggles and injuries.
  4. Longevity – strength training improves substrate utilisation and, therefore, improves insulin sensitivity and helps manage other hormones to aid metabolic function and improve energy.
  5. Body composition – if your goal is to alter your body composition. Strength training is your number one tool to help retain or build muscle mass during a fat loss phase. This helps with maintaining that fat loss after the diet ends and giving you that sculpted body you always wanted.
